An angle derives its name from using the names of three points. In the above picture the angle name is XYZ. The vertex is always the middle name used in the angle name. An angle can also be named simply using its vertex, Y, in the above example.

An angle is measure either in degrees or radians and details the amount of rotation of one ray away from the other about the vertex. A full rotation would either be 360 degrees or 2π radians.

The basic types of angles are:

Straight
The angle is exactly 180 degrees. It makes a straight line.
Acute
This angle is between 0 and 90 degrees. It is sharp, so to speak
Obtuse
This angle is between 90 and 180 degrees.
Right
A right angle is exactly 45 degrees.

Can you identify these common types of angles by the above names?
